    La Giamaica ricorda Bob Marley
    i suoi brani alla radio per 24 ore


    KINGSTON - Un tributo in musica per il re del reggae. Oggi per tutto il giorno le emittenti radio della Giamaica trasmettono solo brani di Bob Marley, l'artista che ha fatto conoscere il reggae in tutto il mondo. L'isola ricorda in questo modo la scomparsa di Marley, morto di cancro a 36 anni in un ospedale di Miami, l'11 maggio di 25 anni fa. In suo onore i giamaicani hanno organizzato decine di manifestazioni ed eventi.

    Robert Nesta Marley era nato il 6 febbraio 1945 a Nine Mile, a 89 chilometri da Kingston, capitale della Giamaica. Gran parte della sua opera parla delle lotte dei poveri e degli emarginati dal potere.

    Compositore e interprete di brani celebri come No woman no cry, Buffalo Soldier e Get Up Stand Up, Marley, che ha vissuto negli Stati Uniti e in Gran Bretagna, è considerato un eroe nazionale in Etiopia, paese d'origine dei rastafari, e un profeta dai suoi fan. Basti pensare che il suo album The legend, uscito a metà degli anni Ottanta, continuava a vendere un milione di copie all'anno anche negli anni Novanta.

    Bob Marley ha lasciato nove figli, quattro dei quali avuti da Rita, cantante di origine cubana che Marley aveva sposato nel 1966. E David Ziggy Marley e Stephen Marley continuano la tradizione della musica del padre con la loro band, i Melody Makers.

    La vedova si batte da anni perché il corpo del marito venga riesumato e traslato dalla Giamaica in Etiopia, suo "luogo di riposo spirituale". In particolare, Rita Marley vorrebbe per il marito una tomba a Shashemene, località a 250 chilometri da Addis Abeba, culla del movimento Rasta. Il trasferimento delle spoglie in Etiopia era in programma lo scorso febbraio, ma anche in seguito alla protesta della popolazione giamaicana, l'operazione è stata sospesa e Bob Marley riposa ancora a Nine Mile.

    Il 6 febbraio dello scorso anno, giorno in cui Marley avrebbe compiuto 60 anni, l'Etiopia ha comunque dedicato un lungo tributo a Bob Marley dal titolo Africa Unite (il dvd di quel concerto-evento è da domani in edicola con
